Qi Points Stimulation for Your Health -Part 2
The 60 Most Useful Acupoints – Part 2
According to the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), life is sustained by the flow of Qi (气). Any obstruction of the Qi flow would cause imbalance and lead to sickness. One way to restore the Qi flow is to stimulate the Qi points, or acupoints. Acupuncture, therapeutic massage and martial arts are examples of Qi-points stimulation and Qi flow enhancement.
Qi point stimulation can be done by yourself at home easily. First locate the area of the Qi-point according to instruction or a Qi-points chart, then use the tip of your thumb applying pressure on the area. Move your thumb tip around the area and try couple of different points until you get the strongest sensation.
In part 1 of the series, we have introduced Hegu (合谷), Neiguan (内关), and Zusanli (足三里). We will introduce Chize (尺泽), Lieque (列缺), Shaoshang (少商) and Shenmen (神门) in part 2. All of these Qi points are located on your hand and arm, can be easily reached by yourself.
Qi Points: Chize (尺泽)
Chize points are bilaterally symmetrical, located on the cubital crease of the elbow, in the depression at the radial side of the tendon of biceps brachii. To locate the point, slightly flexing the forearm so that your biceps tendon becomes more visible. Follow its radial aspect, you will find the Chize point in the cubital crease of your elbow.
Chize points are located on the Hand-Taiyin-Lung-Jing (手太阴肺经) Meridian channel that runs through the front side of arm to the shoulder and links to lungs. Stimulating Chize points activates the Meridian channel, clears heat from Lungs, eases cough and chest pain, descends rebellious Qi, and regulates water passages.
Qi Points: Lieque (列缺)
Lieque points are bilaterally symmetrical, located ~1.5 inch above your wrists along the thumb side of your arms.
One easy way to locate it is to cross your two hands. First, facing the inside of your hands toward you and place the left hand on the outside of the right hand, then let your right thumb cross with the left thumb between the thumb and index finger, move the two hands toward each other until they are locked at the lowest points between the thumb and index finger. In this position, where the tip of your left index finger point at is the Lieque point on your right arm. If you place the right hand on the outside of the left hand, you can find the point on your left arm.
Lieque points are also located on the Hand-Taiyin-Lung-Jing (手太阴肺经) Meridian channel, and it is on the Ren collateral (络) connecting point of the Lung Channel. A collateral connecting point is a secondary channel that connects each organ with its opposite counterpart. For example Lieque connects the Lungs (a Zang/Yin organ) with the Large Intestine (a Fu/Yang) organ.
Stimulating Lieque points activates both Lung Meridian and Ren collateral channels. It can help to ease headache, migraine, neck rigidity, cough, asthma, sore throat, facial paralysis, toothache, pain and weakness of the wrist.
Qi Points: Shaoshang (少商)
Shaoshang points are bilaterally symmetrical, located on the radial side of the thumb near the nail root.
The location of Shaoshang point is at the start point of the Hand-Taiyin-Lung-Jing (手太阴肺经) Meridian channel and is therefore special. These kind of points, located on the fingers and toes of the four limbs, are called Jing-Well points. The Jing-well point of the meridian, has the effect to eliminate pulmonary heat, clear the throat and restore Yang Qi (阳气) from collapsing. It is often used for emergency cases.
For non-emergency situation, stimulating Shaoshang point helps to ease sore throat, nosebleed, fever, agitation, and pain of the thumb.
Qi Points: Shenmen (神门)
Shenmen points are symmetrically located on the ulnar side of the wrist stripes and sit on the Hand-Shaoyin-Heart-Meridian (手少阴心经).
Stimulation the Shenmen points can ease heartache, chest pain, and hypertension.
Qi Points: Tongli (通里)
Tongli points are symmetrically located on the ulnar side of the forearm, about 1 inch above the wrist stripes and sit on the Hand-Shaoyin-Heart-Meridian (手少阴心经).
Stimulation the Tongli points helps for palpitation, loss of voice, and wrist arm pain.
